Two Southeastern biologists, student win national awards

A pair of Southeastern Louisiana University biologists and a graduate student were recognized recently by the American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists, the premier scientific society dedicated to the study of fishes, amphibians and reptiles, at the annual meeting in St. Paul, Mn.

A pair of Southeastern Louisiana University biologists and a graduate student were recognized recently by the American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists, the premier scientific society dedicated to the study of fishes, amphibians and reptiles, at the annual meeting in St. Paul, Mn.

Professor of Biological Sciences Chris Beachy was awarded the Robert K. Johnson Award for excellence in service to the society, while Professor of Biological Sciences and Director of the Center for Environmental Research Kyle Piller was awarded the Meritorious Teaching Award in Ichthyology for exceptional teaching and mentoring in the field of ichthyology.

Also recognized was biology graduate student Abby Klahs of Hammond. Under the direction of Beachy, she was awarded the Stoye Award for Best Oral Presentation in herpetology.
