Southeastern to host Black History Month speaker
Southeastern Louisiana University, in partnership with the University Belonging Council, Sims Memorial Library, and the Tangipahoa African American Heritage Museum and Veterans Archives, will host a speaker in honor of Black History Month.

Southeastern Louisiana University, in partnership with the University Belonging Council, Sims Memorial Library, and the Tangipahoa African American Heritage Museum and Veterans Archives, will host a speaker in honor of Black History Month.
Outreach and Marketing Director of the Tangipahoa African American Heritage Museum and Veterans Archives Deoine Reed will present a lecture titled “African American Innovation and Inventions,” Feb. 25, at 12:30 p.m. Scheduled on the third floor of Sims Memorial Library on Southeastern’s campus, the lecture is free and open to the public.
Reed’s lecture will focus on the achievements of Black inventors and pioneers, whose contributions have shaped modern life. She will highlight groundbreaking innovations across science, technology, medicine, transportation, agriculture, and everyday life – showcasing how African American ingenuity has driven progress and enriched global society.
Attendees will be introduced to both well-known and lesser-recognized innovators, illustrating the breadth and depth of Black creativity and problem-solving – from patented breakthroughs that revolutionized industries, to everyday inventions that transformed how people live and work. Reed will weave historical context with inspiring personal journeys that fosters appreciation for the rich legacy and enduring impact of African American inventors.
