Shawndee Fluker
Instructor
Ms. Fluker has taught for over 23 years at Southeastern Louisiana University in the Communication and Media Studies department, where she serves as an Instructor and subject matter expert in teaching pedagogy and Public Speaking. Her work extends beyond the classroom through significant contributions to statewide educational initiatives, including course development partnerships with the Louisiana Community and Technical College System for the Pathways program and collaboration with the University of Louisiana System on AI education integration.
As a CFE Course Reviewer and Quality Matters certified instructor, Ms. Fluker has helped shape communication curriculum that serves diverse student populations across Louisiana. Her expertise spans multiple areas of communication studies, with particular strength in public speaking, interpersonal communication, and intercultural communication contexts.
Ms. Fluker's teaching philosophy centers on helping students discover their authentic voice while developing the practical communication skills essential for professional success. Through partnerships with the Education department and TESOL program, she prepares future educators and trainers to communicate with clarity and purpose in diverse classroom environments.
Ms. Fluker actively supports student success and departmental initiatives, including the Vonnie Borden tournament. She has served as a faculty senator and CMS curriculum chair. She participates in campus programs such as Job Fair, First Gen Success, and Lifelong Learning, and shares her expertise through the Southeastern Foundation's Digital Literacy Program teaching AI Basics classes. Additionally, she has served as a debate judge for NCFCA for 10 years.
She believes in meeting students where they are, whether traditional college students or high school learners taking college courses, and guiding them toward confident, effective communication.
