Southeast Louisiana Historical Association meeting scheduled
The Southeast Louisiana Historical Association will hold its annual meeting Aug. 24. Scheduled in the Hammond Regional Arts Center, 217 E. Thomas St., the meeting will focus on the period of Spanish governance of Southeast Louisiana and the surrounding Gulf South region.

HAMMOND – The Southeast Louisiana Historical Association will hold its annual meeting Aug. 24. Scheduled in the Hammond Regional Arts Center, 217 E. Thomas St., the meeting will focus on the period of Spanish governance of Southeast Louisiana and the surrounding Gulf South region. Guest speaker for the meeting is Jennifer Levin from the University of Virginia.
Doors open at 6 p.m. with refreshments and a meet and greet social hour. Dinner, catered by Tope’ La Restaurant, will be served at 6:30 p.m. Levin’s presentation will follow dinner with more refreshments and conversation.
As part of the meeting, Southeastern Louisiana University Professor of Marketing Michael Budden will be introduced as the new J.Y. Sanders Research Scholar. His research focuses on Civil War operations near Spanish Fort, Ala.
Dues for the coming year are $25 per person, and they include admission and dinner at the annual meeting, along with the association’s post-pandemic revived scholarly journal, Southeast Louisiana Review, and the annual newsletter, The Centerpiece. Member spouses may attend the meeting and dinner at a discounted rate of $10. Non-member participation in the dinner/meeting is $15 per person. All current and prospective members are encouraged to attend and bring a guest.
