About:
Dr. Cannon is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics. He holds a B.S. in Applied Mathematical Sciences, a B.S. in Educational Curriculum & Instruction, an M.S. in Mathematics, and a Ph.D. in Mathematics, all from Texas A&M University. He has been at Southeastern since 1995 where he later earned B.A. and M.A. degrees in History. He also has twenty-four graduate hours in political science, fifteen graduate hours in geography, and eighteen post-masters graduate hours in history.
Teaching Focus:
Dr. Cannon regularly teaches Trigonometry, Precalculus, Honors Calculus I, Calculus II, Foundations of Discrete Mathematics, History of Mathematics, Abstract Algebra I & II, Mathematical Statistics I, Honors Freshman Academic Success, and Honors American Constitutional Convention Roleplay.
Key Accomplishments:
Honorary Member of Southeastern’s Student Government Association (2000), President’s Award for Faculty Service (2007), President’s Award for Research (2022), President’s Award for Teaching (2025).
Nearrings, especially centralizer nearrings, nearrings of functions, and centers of nearrings. A secondary research area has been in rings determined by covers of groups. His main interests in history are Colonial America, the American Revolution, America in the Early National Period, World War I and II, and American Military History.
