Dr. Grace McCraryDr. Grace McCrary joins the voice faculty this fall as a Lecturer in Applied Voice. Dr. McCrary will also be stage directing Southeastern’s fall opera, a double bill performance of Menotti’s The Old Maid and the Thief and Pasatieri’s Signor Deluso. In addition to teaching at Southeastern, Dr. McCrary maintains a private voice studio and teaches within the Talented and Performing Arts Program of St. Tammany Parish Public Schools.

Dr. McCrary is an active performer. She has performed with Opera Louisiane, The Louisiana Sinfionetta, Manhattan Opera Studio, Mississippi Opera, The Franco-American Vocal Arts Academy in Austria, and the International Performing Arts Institute in Germany. She has most recently performed roles including Thérèse ( Les Mamelles de Tirésias), Queen of the Night (Die Zauberflöte), Madame Herz (Der Schauspieldirektor), Lucy (Three Penny Opera), Valencienne (The Merry Widow), Despina (Cosí fan tutte), Adele (Die Fledermaus), Rose (The Little Prince), and Amalia (She Loves Me).

Dr. McCrary holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance and a Bachelor of Music Education from The University of Southern Mississippi, a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Louisiana State University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Vocal Performance from Louisiana State University. She has studied voice with Dr. Maryann Kyle, Robert Grayson, and Sandra Moon.

While at LSU, McCrary completed her dissertation, “A Performer's Guide to ‘No Man In His Right Mind,’ ‘Letter,’ and ‘Mirror Mirror’ from the opera, Dog Days.” Dr. McCrary performed the role of Lisa within the Turner-Fischer Center for Opera’s collegiate premiere of Dog Days, a performance that would go on to win 1st place at the National Opera Association’s 2018 Opera Production Competition. The collegiate premiere was also named a national finalist for The American Prize in Opera Performance. Dr. McCrary is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and the Louisiana Music Educators Association.

Dr. McCrary resides in Slidell, Louisiana with her husband, Taylor, and their two-year-old son, Luke.
