Flood Recovery FAQs

  1. Is campus open?
Campus sustained no flood damage and is open.

  2. When is the start of classes?
Southeastern modified its fall academic calendar to begin classes on Monday, Aug. 22 and extended deadlines for financial aid, course selection and payment.
Key date changes are indicated below with additional changes made to the university academic calendar
Aug. 22-24: Drop/Add Period (students will be able to drop to zero hours, if needed)
Aug. 24: Final Day to cancel registration with a 100% refund*
Aug. 26: Financial Aid refunds will be disbursed to Bank Mobile (formerly Higher One)

*The university will continue to consider refunds past this date on a case-by-case basis for students impacted by the flooding.

  3. When is Fee Payment Deadline? Will my classes be dropped?
If you have been impacted by the flood and WERE NOT ABLE TO pay your fees, special accommodations may be requested.  Your classes for fall 2016 have not been cancelled.  Please submit requests to studentaccounts@southeastern.edu.

  4. Does “Pending Financial Aid” cover my tuition, fees and other charges?
Financial Aid has been posted as "Pending Aid" to the accounts of all students who have completed the application process. This is the standard process for applying aid to the students' bills before aid is actually disbursed. If your pending aid is greater than your charges, you are considered fully paid.  If the pending aid is less than your charges, the difference is your account balance.  In either case, your classes will not be cancelled until we hear from you. Please contact us at finaid@southeastern.edu as soon as possible.

  5. How can I make changes to the financial aid awards I originally accepted?
If you need to change your award in any way please contact Financial Aid as soon as possible at finaid@southeastern.edu.  For example, some students who did not need loan funds originally may now want to receive loan funds. If you want to alter your financial aid award or if you want to be reconsidered for aid for which you are eligible, please stop by the financial aid office or email finaid@southeastern.edu right away.

  6. Are there other payment options?
Students who need assistance with payment options or need to request a modified payment plan, please contact the Controller's Office at studentaccounts@southeastern.edu.

  7. What happens if I can’t make it to the first week of classes?
Students who’ve been impacted by flooding and may not be able to make it to classes are asked to contact their professors/instructors directly to let them know. Professors/Instructors have been instructed to work on a case-by-case basis with students who will miss classes and assignments.

  8. What will happen if I decide I cannot attend this semester?
