A Message from the President

Southeastern Louisiana University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award associate, baccalaureate, masters and doctoral degrees. Southeastern is a Level V institution.

Reaffirmation of accreditation occurs every ten years through a rigorous review process, and we are undergoing that process now. As one of the first steps, several months ago we submitted our Compliance Certification, which includes a large amount of information and materials intended to document compliance with the SACSCOC Principles of Accreditation. In November, these materials were reviewed by an Off-Site Reaffirmation Committee, and based on its review, a Focused Report was submitted in December to provide additional details and documentation of compliance.

The next step in the reaffirmation process will occur February 3 -5, when an On-Site Reaffirmation Committee will visit our campus. Its role is to finalize any remaining issues or questions concerning compliance with the Principles of Accreditation, as well as to conduct on-site verification of compliance with certain Federal requirements. Its other major role is to conduct an evaluation of our QEP (Quality Enhancement Plan).

Beginning in Spring 2012, our campus went through a lengthy process to select "Real-World Ready" as the topic for our QEP, which seeks to improve student learning by expanding and enhancing experiential learning opportunities. Additional details about the selection and development of the QEP topic can be reviewed on the QEP web page.

The QEP Team has done a wonderful job refining the topic and developing all of the detailed elements of the project, including a timeline for implementation and assessment plan. A link to the complete final QEP, "Real-World Ready" is available on the QEP web page.

While there has been broad-based involvement in the selection and development of the QEP, I would encourage everyone to review the final proposed plan.

I know that we all look forward to welcoming the members of the On-Site Reaffirmation Team to our campus.

John L. Crain, President
