A Message from the President

February 29, 2016

Last Wednesday, hundreds of students from colleges and universities across the state rallied at the State Capitol in support of their institutions and future educational opportunities. Also last week, critical pieces of legislation finally began moving through the approval process. Specifically, the House of Representatives voted to approve key measures necessary for solving the state’s budget crisis, including an additional penny sales tax.

Although the legislative measures approved to date appear to be short of what is necessary to completely address the shortfall in the current fiscal year, important progress is being made. Attention will now turn to the Senate where revenue measures approved by the House may be modified to generate additional revenue. Of course, any changes made by the Senate will still need concurrence by the House before the end of the Special Session on Wednesday, March 9.

As always, I will continue to update our campus community as developments unfold.
