Annual Convocation

August 5, 2020

Our annual Convocation is scheduled for next Friday, August 14.  The Convocation is one of our most important events and serves to kick off the start of the new academic year.  It is also an important opportunity for us to introduce new members of the Southeastern family, recognize the accomplishments of our colleagues and, in true Louisiana fashion, enjoy some fellowship and good food prior to the beginning of the Fall Semester.

Unfortunately, the current state of COVID -19 in our community and state, along with applicable public health guidance, precludes our ability to safely assemble such a large group.  While I regret the need to deviate from the customary activities associated with the Convocation, our commitment to protecting the health and safety of our people dictates that we make alternate plans.

Accordingly, we will reschedule our assembly and picnic to a later date, either when the public health guidance is more accommodating of a large indoor gathering or when the weather is cooler and we can safely assemble at an outside venue.

I will still address our campus community - via video message - at the previously scheduled time.  My message will also be recorded and available for viewing at a later date.  More details will be forthcoming early next week.

I look forward to addressing our Southeastern family members next Friday, and more importantly, I look forward to seeing many of you on campus – at a distance and with a face mask – in the near future.
