Campus COVID Update

June 1, 2021

Last week Governor John Bel Edwards revised Louisiana’s COVID-19 public health proclamation, including significant changes to the statewide mandate requiring face coverings.  Likewise, the University of Louisiana System recently updated its COVID-19 guidelines, eliminating the System mask mandate while stipulating that those individuals who are not fully vaccinated should continue to wear masks.

Accordingly, effective with the beginning of the Summer Semester on June 2, Southeastern’s Face Masks/Covering Policy has been modified to include an exception for individuals who are fully vaccinated, meaning two weeks after receiving the final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine.

All the vaccines authorized for use in the United States have been found to be safe and highly effective at protecting against COVID-19.  The authorized vaccine from Pfizer has been available on campus for several months and nearly 4,000 doses have been safely provided to eligible faculty, staff, and students.

The vaccine remains available at no cost through the University Health Center, and all eligible members of the campus community are strongly encouraged to be vaccinated.  Continuing to increase the vaccination rate of our Southeastern Family is of paramount importance as we seek to ensure the health and safety of our campus community and a return to a more normal academic year.

Individuals who are not able to be vaccinated due to an underlying medical condition should seek accommodations through Student Accessibility Services or the ADA Officer, as appropriate.
