Dr. Crain Announces Retirement

January 25, 2023

After much personal reflection, I am announcing my retirement as President of Southeastern, effective upon the appointment of a new President which is anticipated by the end of the current academic year.  While this is a difficult decision for me, I believe it is the right time for me to transition to the next phase in my life and an appropriate inflection point in the course of the University.

This decision has been closely coordinated with Dr. Jim Henderson, President and CEO of the University of Louisiana System, and I am committed to working with him, System staff and the Board of Supervisors to ensure a smooth transition in leadership.  Accordingly, Dr. Henderson will soon communicate with the campus community additional details about the upcoming presidential search process.

At the time of my appointment as President in February of 2009, I told the Board of Supervisors I was humbled by their decision to grant me the extraordinary privilege of leading my alma mater.  I pledged to work hard to be an effective president and will continue to do so through my last day in this role.

I remain grateful for the opportunity to work with so many outstanding students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members.  Collectively, they are the reason Southeastern has been and will continue to be a great institution.

Lion Up!

John L. Crain
President
