Message from the Provost

It's Blue

In my early days at Southeastern, the arrival of the “blue memo” marked the beginning of the semester. The memo included a welcome along with important dates and information for the semester. It was printed on blue paper to help distinguish it from other correspondence in your mailbox. It was a tradition.

Technology has certainly changed the way we communicate information but part of me misses that blue memo. So, as you read this email message, please try to envision a background of blue.

Welcome! Thank you for choosing to be at Southeastern. Some of you are new, but for most of you the start of the semester represents another year of loyal service and dedication to our university. You are all appreciated. Combining the talents of our new faculty and staff with those of our existing faculty and staff can lead to an explosion of new ideas and opportunities --  I can feel the energy rising!

Just a couple of reminders as you continue your preparations for the semester.

Please refer to the Fall 2018 Semester Informational Memo for requirements and deadlines relevant to the management of your courses.

Committee assignments for Standing Committees 2018-2019 have been posted. Please take a look. These committees are important and your service is appreciated.

Tomorrow is our annual convocation. We will recognize recipients of the President's Excellence Awards, congratulate faculty recommended for tenure and promotion, recognize new employees and honor the service of many faculty and staff who also remember the “blue memo” --including five Emeritus awards! The celebration starts at 11:00 a.m. in the Student Union Grand Ballroom. Please join me.

Again, many thanks for being part of the Southeastern family – and thanks for seeing "blue."  It’s going to be a great semester!

My best,
Tena
