2005 Distinguished Alumnus: Leon Anderson

Leon Anderson

Leon Anderson Received his master’s degree at Southeastern in 1996 and is both Director
of Jazz Studies at Florida State University and an acclaimed percussionist.

While at Southeastern, Anderson studied with mentor Ellis Marsalis and Victor Goines
of the New Orleans jazz scene. In 1998, he accepted his position at Florida State
University, where he teaches drum set, jazz ensembles, and rhythm section methods.

Anderson’s musical experience includes classical and jazz percussionist, educator,
clinician, and composer. Currently, Anderson performs and tours nationally and international
with Marsalis, Goines, Walter Payton and the Snapbean Band, and the Third Coast Jazz
Quintet. He was selected as Southeastern’s 2005 Distinguished Alumnus from the College
of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences.
