2007 Distinguished Alumnus: Wayne Brumfield
Dr. W. Wayne Brumfield, a Hammond native, is the vice president for student affairs
at The University of Louisiana at Monroe, a position he’s held since July 2002.
After working in the private sector for several years, Brumfield began in admissions,
recruitment and freshmen orientation at Southeastern Louisiana University from 1989
to 1995. He then became the director of admissions at Southern University and served
that institution for four years. After gaining experience in the area of admissions,
he accepted the registrar’s position at Louisiana State University at Eunice in 1999.
Brumfield is affiliated with many higher education organizations and regularly presents
papers at conferences throughout the United States.
He graduated from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette with a bachelor’s degree.
He received his master’s degree from Southeastern Louisiana University. While continuing
to work full-time, he received his Ph.D. from the College of Education, Louisiana
State University at Baton Rouge.
Dr. Brumfield was named Southeastern’s 2007 Distinguished Alumnus from the College
of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences.
