2008 Distinguished Alumnus: Rosemary Wong

 

Rosemary Wong

Dr. Wong received here Bachelors of Arts degree in education from Southeastern in 1974. She also received her Master's in Education from Louisiana State University and her Doctorate in Education for Brigham Young University.


She began her career as a classroom teacher in East Baton Rouge Parish schools, where she taught for 5 years before accepting a position with the Mountain View School District in California. From 1980 to 1985 Dr. Wong served Mountain View schools as a classroom teacher, media specialist and student activities director.


In 1986, she co-authored a book, The Days of School, which has gone on to become the bestselling book ever in the field of education. Dr. Wong has also produced an award winning video series entitled The Effective Teacher.


Dr. Wong is a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Kappa Delta Pi. She serves on the boards of Meals on Wheels of San Francisco and The First Days of School Foundation and is a past member of Self Help for the Elderly in Santa Clara, California and the Tibetan Aid Project Fundraising Committee.


Her honors include the 1998 Silicon Valley Woman of Achievement Award, the Upton Sinclair Award given by EducationNews.org, and has been named a 2008 San Jose Business Journal Woman of Influence.


She has built and sustains a school in Cambodia with her husband, Harry Wong, who is a partner with her on several projects and also a guru in the field of education.
