2010 Distinguished Alumnus: Dr. Eric Griener

 

Eric Griener

Dr. Eric Griener of Hammond is an ophthalmologist with practices in Hammond and Mandeville. He graduated from Southeastern in 1982 with a bachelor's degree in biology and completed his medical education at LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans. After completing residencies in pediatrics and ophthalmology at Tulane and Ochsner Foundation Hospital, he served as chief of ophthalmology at Air Force and Army bases in Alaska, where he also treated the Native Americans of the area. After three years in Alaska, he received an academic appointment to Emory University, where he completed a fellowship in strabismus surgery. Dr. Griener returned to Louisiana, where he established his ophthalmology practices. A strong advocate for environmental consciousness, he constructed his clinic to complement the natural environmental of its wooded setting in Hammond.
