Master of Arts in Teaching

The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program is designed for individuals who want to earn a master’s degree with teaching certification.

Admission Requirements

  1. Satisfy requirements for regular admission set by the Office of Graduate Studies except where the following requirements are higher or more specific.
  2. Hold at least a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university.
  3. Have a minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.75.
  4. Do not hold teaching certification in any U.S. state.
  5. Earn passing score on all required Praxis content exams related to the certification area being pursued or have 30 credit hours of coursework in the certification area only if no Praxis exam is available for that certification area. (Note: Only the Praxis content exam(s) are required for admission.) 

Note: An applicant for any music or world language education program has additional content-related requirements that will be provided once the application is reviewed.

Program Cost

The MAT program is included in the Southeastern Online flat rate tuition program.

Practitioner’s License

Regular admission to the MAT program qualifies an individual to hold a Practitioner’s License (PL) in Louisiana if he/she is hired as a full-time teacher of record in a Louisiana school that is governed by the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education/Louisiana Department of Education.
