Dr. Angela Wood is an assistant professor of social work and Field Director for the BSW and MSW programs in the Department of Health and Human Sciences. She earned a MSW from Southern Illinois University in 1992, and a Ph.D. in social from Tulane University in 2006. Her research focuses on motivational interviewing and health behavior change. Before joining the faculty in 2016, Dr. Wood worked in a variety social work settings including, addictions treatment, home-based family therapy, community-based mental health, and criminal/juvenile justice and has been a licensed clinical social worker since 1997. In 2020, she published a self-help book, The Motivational Interviewing Workbook: Exercises to Help You Decide What You Want and How to Get There.

Area of Expertise

Motivational Interviewing, with a focus on teaching and training. She has been a member of the international Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers since 2016 and has conducted over 100 workshops and trainings on this topic.
