Dr. Bonnie Achée is the Department Head and Associate Professor of Computer Science. As department head, she leads efforts to grow student enrollment, develop innovative curricula, and build strong industry and community partnerships.
She is the founder of the ACE-CS (Advancing Curriculum and Excellence in Computer Science) research group, which focuses on expanding opportunities in computer science education. Her research examines pathways to strengthen teacher preparation, broaden participation, and improve learning outcomes in computer science.
Dr. Achée currently serves as the principal investigator of the Energize Project, a partnership with the Louisiana Department of Education and Southeastern’s College of Education. This initiative equips 6th–12th grade in-service teachers to pass the Praxis computer science exam, enabling them to earn state endorsement to teach computer science in Louisiana high schools.
