Dr. Bovorn Sirikul is an Associate Professor for the Department of Kinesiology and Health Studies at Southeastern Louisiana University, a position he has held since August 2006.

Dr. Sirikul's extensive academic journey began at Louisiana Tech University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in General Studies (1994) and a Master of Science in Exercise Science (1996). He then attended The University of Alabama, where he completed his Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology with minors in Human Physiology and Education Research in 2002. Following his doctoral studies, he pursued post-doctoral fellowships in Applied Environmental Physiology at the Medical College of Georgia from 2002 to 2003 and in Physiology and Metabolism at the University of Alabama at Birmingham from 2003 to 2006.

Prior to joining the faculty at Southeastern, Dr. Sirikul gained professional experience at several institutions. He served as an adjunct instructor at Samford University. He was also a Clinical Trainer for the Objective Structured Clinical Exam Program at the University of Alabama School of Medicine. During his graduate studies, he served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at both The University of Alabama and Louisiana Tech University.

Area of Expertise

His research focuses on the role of exercise, nutrition, and education in preventing and treating chronic diseases, with particular attention to dose response, physical activity promotion, and reducing sedentary behaviors. He also investigates hydration, thermoregulation, and safety in extreme environmental conditions. Dr. Sirikul’s scholarly contributions include numerous peer-reviewed publications in journals such as Obesity, Applied Physiology, Nutrition and Metabolism, and the American Journal of Physiology: Endocrinology and Metabolism. He has served as a reviewer for leading journals, including the British Journal of Sports Medicine and the International Journal of Sports Medicine.

Dr. Sirikul is an active member of the American College of Sports Medicine, the Southeast Chapter of ACSM, and The Obesity Society. He is certified as a Health Fitness Specialist by ACSM and as a Healthcare Provider by the American Heart Association. Beyond his professional duties, he has mentored several graduate and undergraduate students, supporting their development as scholars and professionals. He has successfully secured numerous grants to support his teaching and research endeavors and technology acquisition for classroom and laboratory activities. Dr. Sirikul has also served as a co-principal investigator and statistical consultant on projects funded by organizations such as the NIOSH and DuPont, Inc. At Southeastern, Dr. Sirikul teaches a range of undergraduate and graduate courses, including Physiology of Exercise at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
