Carrie M. Edwards is an instructor in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Studies at Southeastern Louisiana University. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Communication and Public Relations from Mississippi University for Women in 2004 and a Master of Arts in Health Studies and Kinesiology from Southeastern Louisiana University in 2007. Since 2007, she has been an instructor, lecturing in courses such as Healthy Lifestyles, Stress Management, and Community and Population Health. Edwards has experience in teaching activity-based courses, including Functional Fitness, Walking for Fitness, and Pilates.
In addition to her instructional duties, Edwards has held several administrative roles. She has been the KHS Undergraduate Coordinator since January 2021, a role that involves managing academic advising for over 650 students and serving as the primary contact for student and faculty inquiries. She also served as the Health Sciences Program Coordinator from 2018 to 2023. Before her faculty appointment, she was a Graduate Assistant in the same department from 2005 to 2006, where she assisted with data collection, created lesson plans, and guest lectured.
Edwards's research interests are reflected in her funded grants and publications. She co-authored the 2021 publication "Student mood and responses to standing desks in the college classroom" in the American Journal of Health Studies. She also received funding for her individual projects, "Enhancing Student Learning with Visual Representations and Functional Body Systems Models" and "Balance, Stability, and Core Training". In 2019, she received the College of Nursing and Health Sciences Excellence in Service Award. She holds a Mental Health First Aid certification and has been a member of the American College Health Association since 2019. She has also served as an abstract reviewer for the American College Health Association in 2025. Edwards has presented at professional conferences, including the Louisiana Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (LAHPERD) in 2024, where she spoke on "Sleep and Stress Health: Insight of Daily Influence in Education".
