Professor Dale Newkirk received his Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) from Herron School of Art in
1982 and his Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from The Ohio State University in 1984. He was a
Professor of Sculpture at New Mexico State University and Indiana University before joining the
faculty at Southeastern in 2003 as the Director of University Art Galleries. In addition to
working as the university’s Gallery Director, he has served as the Department Head for the
Department of Visual Arts + Design for nine years, and Interim Department Head for the
Department of Music and Performing Arts. Professor Newkirk is currently teaching courses in
3-D Design and sculpture.
Newkirk’s studio practice is in the areas of sculpture, drawing, and painting. His artwork has
been exhibited throughout the United States and abroad, including exhibitions in New Orleans,
Los Angeles, San Francisco, El Paso, Santa Fe, Chicago, Madrid, Mexico City, and New Delhi. His
artwork is represented by Cole Pratt Gallery in New Orleans.
