Department of Music and Performing ArtsDr. David Johansen is a professor of low brass studies in the Department of Music and Performing Arts. He holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Iowa, a Master of Science in Music Education from the University of Illinois, and a Bachelor of Music in Music Education degree from Fort Hays State University.
Dr. Johansen primarily teaches applied lessons in trombone, Euphonium, and tuba. He also teaches low brass methods and Introduction to Music (MUS1510) online. Dr. Johansen also serves as the Undergraduate Coordinator as well as the Instrumental Coordinator for the Department of Music.
Dr. Johansen recently collaborated with Dr. Daniel Lau and jointly released a compact disc entitled, Six Sonatas for Trombone and Piano, available for streaming through iTunes, Spotify, and YouTube. Dr. Johansen is a member of the Baton Rough Symphony Orchestra and has performed with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, The Acadiana Symphony Orchestra, and the Rapides Symphony Orchestra.
