𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗢𝗦𝗛𝗘 - Industrial Hygiene and Environmental Health
Dr. Ephraim Massawe is a Professor in the Occupational Safety, Health, and Environmental (OSHE) program at Southeastern Louisiana University (SELU), where he formerly held the Louisiana Gas and Utility Professorship. He serves as an ABET Program Evaluator (PEV) and Team Chair for the Applied Natural Science Accreditation Commission (ANSAC). Dr. Massawe holds a BSc in Chemical and Process Engineering from the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania; an MSc in Environmental Science and Technology from IHE Delft (Netherlands) and Murdoch University (Australia), respectively; and both an MSc and Doctoral degree in Industrial Hygiene and Occupational and Environmental Health from the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
He is a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH), an Exposure Decision Analysis (EDA) Registry Expert recognized by the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA), and a former holder of the Louisiana Gas and Utility Professorship. Dr. Massawe is an active member of several professional organizations, including AIHA, ACGIH, ASSP, NEHA, APHA, and ISRP. His professional honors include his endowed professorship and leadership appointments with ABET, where he currently serves as a Program Evaluator (PEV) and Team Chair for the Applied Natural Science Accreditation Commission (ANSAC).
Dr. Massawe has authored numerous scholarly papers in chemical engineering, safety, health, and environmental science and technology. He chairs multiple initiatives, including the Nano-4-Rem-aNssERs project focused on nanotechnology safety, and has previously led the Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) program for Tangipahoa Parish Public Schools to address asthma. His interdisciplinary and collaborative research has significantly advanced the fields of occupational, environmental, and public health in areas such as indoor air quality, ventilation engineering, industrial hygiene, exposure assessment, risk modeling, STEM education, workforce development, and eLearning strategies for adult learners in Louisiana's Occupational Safety, Health, and Environment (OSHE) sectors. In 2013, Dr. Massawe was appointed to serve on the federal Site Exposure Matrix (SEM) Committee, a critical initiative supporting occupational exposure assessments for former U.S. Department of Energy workers.
