Dr. Frank M. Campo Sr. is an instructor in the Department of Biological Sciences. His primary focus is teaching introductory biology lectures and laboratories using a constructivist approach as well as training graduate teaching assistants (GTAs). His educational background includes a doctorate in education leadership, a master of science in wetlands ecology, and a bachelor of science from Southeastern Louisiana University.
His research has focused on identifying and developing evidence-based practices that strengthen the teaching self-efficacy of GTAs. Dr. Campo’s research stems from over 27 years of experience teaching, training, and collaborating with a diversity of biology GTAs. As the introductory biology lab coordinator, he has transformed the traditional weekly biology GTA lab meetings into a formal, two-semester graduate course. This course addresses the call to improve GTA professional development and ultimately make learning more meaningful and accessible for the undergraduate students they serve.
