Bossart is a Professor and the Graduate Coordinator in the Department of Biological Sciences. She has served for eight years as an Academic Editor for the journal PLOS ONE and previously served for two years as a Program Director in the Division of Environmental Biology at the National Science Foundation.
Research in her lab spans various sub areas of insect ecology, evolution, and conservation, and integrates both observational and experimental approaches that rely heavily on quantitative analyses. The focus is mostly on native bees and butterflies, and ecosystems and species of greatest conservation concern, and included more than a decade of work in the tropical forests of West Africa. A primary goal is to understand how human transformation and degradation of environmental landscapes impacts species and communities.
Dr. Bossart obtained a BS from West Virginia University, an MS and PhD from Michigan State University, and held Postdoctoral Research positions at the University of Maryland and Louisiana State University. She has been a faculty member at Southeastern since 2005, and held previous faculty positions at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and The College of New Jersey.
