John G. Boulahanis is the Director of Graduate Studies and Professor of Criminal Justice at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, Louisiana. He holds a Ph.D. in Sociology, an MA in Criminology, both from Southern Illinois University and a BA in Criminal Justice Sciences (cum laude) from Illinois State University.

A self-identified social constructionist, Dr. Boulahanis's research focuses on media reporting patterns of crime and their influence on public perception and fear. His scholarly interests include trends and patterns of homicide, youth violence, fear of crime, homicide clearance rates, and media portrayals of criminal activity. His recent work examines how news media coverage of homicide shapes public fear and understanding of crime. Dr. Boulahanis’s research has appeared in journals such as Criminal Justice Policy Review, Homicide Studies, and the International Journal of Public Sector Management. He has also been featured on a variety of news outlets as an expert on crime, with particular emphasis on homicide trends and patterns.

In his role as Director of Graduate Studies, Dr. Boulahanis serves as a liaison between graduate students and faculty. His responsibilities include overseeing academic standards, monitoring student progress, addressing grievances, and ensuring compliance with university policies for student success and overall program quality.
