Dr. John W. Burris is the Chief Information Officer at Southeastern and holds the academic rank of Associate Professor of Computer Science. Since earning his Ph.D. in Computer Science from LSU, his favorite course to teach has been CMPS 4790 – Automata Theory and Formal Languages. Originally from Franklinton, LA, Dr. Burris is driven by the practical applications of technology whether it is at his family farm or at the university. His favorite project at Southeastern has been an art project that generates a tree image that is based on someone’s genetic information. His research areas include computing theory, cybersecurity, ERP systems, software engineering, machine learning, project management, and policy/governance.
