Anderson is interested in viruses and how they behave in their hosts. His current
research focuses on responses of mosquito-borne and crawfish viruses to environmental
contaminants, the presence of herpesviruses in student saliva, and the characterization of
bacteriophages of several species of bacteria. He teaches Virology every spring and leads
the Virus Hunters course for first-year Honors students.
Dr. Anderson earned his doctorate at the University of Notre Dame studying mosquito
genetics. He was then a postdoctoral scientist in San Antonio where he worked on dengue
virus. He spent fifteen years teaching in Virginia, the last six as department chair, before
joining Southeastern in 2022. He currently serves as the Department Head.
