Dr. Laura DiMattia is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication & Media Studies, where she instructs undergraduate and graduate courses in strategic communication, social media, sports communication, public speaking, and event planning. In her courses, she seeks to use High-Impact Practices (HIPs) that are student-centered, engaging, reflective, and present authentic, real-world opportunities for learning.

Laura’s research is centered around the study of media, sport, and education (particularly the emerging field of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL). Her dissertation, Understanding the Motivation and Learning Factors Among Division I Student-Athletes: Crafting a First-Year Name, Image, Likeness Seminar, studied the educational factors and motivation of student-athletes and helped craft first-year student-athlete curriculum in the emerging field of NIL.

Laura is dedicated to helping students gain the knowledge and skill necessary to be successful in both the digital and professional world. In all of her courses, students are encouraged to think critically, creatively craft messages, and gain hands-on knowledge that will allow them to be confident and ethical communicators in the ever-changing media environment.
