Leilya Pitre is an assistant professor and the English Education Coordinator at Southeastern Louisiana University, where she teaches methods courses in writing and literature, linguistics, and American and Young Adult literature for preservice teachers as well as undergraduate and graduate students. She earned her PhD in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialization in English Education from Louisiana State University and a Master’s degree in Philology and English as a Foreign Language from Zaporizhzhia State University in Ukraine.

Area of Expertise

Teacher Preparation, Secondary Education, and Teaching and Scholarship in Young Adult Literature. With colleague Mike Cook, she co-authored the two-volume Teaching Universal Themes Through Young Adult Novels (2021). Her most recent book, Where Stars Meet People: Teaching and Writing Poetry in Conversation (2023), invites readers to explore poetry through reading and writing.
