Dr. Luz M. Escobar started working at Southeastern in 1998 as an Instructor of Spanish. Dr. Escobar is a dentist who graduated from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogota, Colombia in 1978. In the field of arts she holds a Master’s degree with a concentration in Spanish Teaching, and a Master of Science with a concentration in Sustainable Human Development from Tulane University. Together with her teaching, Luz coordinated the successful Annual Foreign Language Festival for 18 years (1999 - 2018). One of Dr. Escobar’s scholarly works is the translation and adaptation to Spanish of the book “El Mesianismo y La Rebelion Indigena - La Rebelion de Oruro en 1781” (Nicholas A Robins, PhD, Hisbol, La Paz, Bolivia.).
Dr. Escobar’s teaching interest is oriented toward the integration of the basic Spanish command with the development of elemental and advanced conversational ability, the teaching of Spanish for the health professions, as well as translation / interpretation, especially in the health environment, and the involvement of new technologies for online teaching.
