Expertise and Research Interests
Dr. Michaelyn Broussard brings extensive experience in environmental education and ecological research. Her work at Turtle Cove Environmental Research Center began as a graduate student leading educational field trips and evolved into a role as project manager, where she assisted with and conducted research on wetland habitat restoration and ecological competition experiments on North Campus. Her research reflects a strong commitment to the conservation and restoration of Louisiana’s coastal ecosystems.
Teaching Focus
Dr. Broussard teaches freshman-level general biology courses for both majors and non-majors (BIOL 1510, 1530, 1060, 1070). Her teaching emphasizes the integration of core biological concepts with real-world environmental issues, particularly those affecting Louisiana’s ecosystems and public health. She is passionate about fostering scientific literacy and environmental awareness in her students.
Key Accomplishments
Dr. Broussard served as Director of Region VIII Science Fair (2006-2023) and is serving on the board for several community organizations such as Louisiana Maritime Museum (2020 to present) and Mandeville Northshore Kiwanis (2015-2016, 2022 to present, Kiwanian of the Year 2023).
