Dr. Olga Shanks is an Assistant Professor of Economics in the Department of Management and Business Administration at Southeastern Louisiana University. She teaches Principles of Macroeconomics, Introduction to Money and Banking, and is developing a course in Economic Development.

Her research focuses on industrial organization, productivity, innovation, and political economy. She has published in peer-reviewed journals, including Structural Change and Economic Dynamics (2024), and maintains active working papers on development and labor markets. Dr. Shanks regularly presents her work at major conferences, such as the Southern Economic Association and the Public Choice Society.

Before entering academia, she built a career in corporate finance at Volkswagen and Verizon, specializing in forecasting, capital budgeting, and financial reporting. These experiences inform her teaching, emphasizing data literacy and the practical application of economic theory to real-world challenges.

Dr. Shanks holds a Ph.D. in Economics, an MBA, and a B.S. in Finance from George Mason University, as well as a B.A. in Foreign Languages from Minsk State Linguistic University.
