Dr. Paula Summers Calderon is dean of the College of Education and Professor of Teaching & Learning. She holds a Ph.D. from LSU A&M (2004). Calderon has served as president of the Louisiana Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (LACTE) in 2020-2022 and 2024-2026 and is a 2019-2020 Deans for Impact fellow. In fall 2025, Calderon accepted the position as chair of the South Region of the Advisory Council for State Representatives (ACSR) which serves as an advisory board for the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE). Prior to becoming dean in fall 2017, Calderon served as associate director of the School of Education at Louisiana State University and A&M College, charged with accreditation and teacher licensure. At LSU, she was coordinator of world language teacher education and taught methods courses for world language education majors. A former high school French teacher, Calderon’s research interests include second language acquisition, language comprehension, and school-based experiences for preservice teachers.
