Dr. Rodrigo Pereyra is an assistant professor of Spanish and Deiglmayr Endowed Professor in the Department of English and World Languages at Southeastern Louisiana University. He also serves as the Director of the Study Abroad and Global Engagement (SAGE) office. He received his PhD from Texas Tech University, where he also taught for several years before joining Southeastern. Dr. Pereyra's teaching interests and methodology include translation and interpretation, business and economics, medical Spanish, student-centered and project-based learning, and the integration of technology and digital media.

Area of Expertise

Hispanic Literature and Culture, with a specialization in Hispanic crime fiction. He has numerous publications in this field and has directed the International Hispanic Crime Fiction Conference (CILDE) since 2011. Since 2019, he has served as chief editor of Dura, a peer-reviewed journal dedicated to Hispanic crime fiction. In 2025, he edited a book on the Mexican writer and critic Carlos Monsiváis. Also in 2025, due to his recognized expertise, he was invited to write the prefaces for the books Hispanic Legacies and En este continente que agoniza. His most recent publication is a collaborative work on a dictionary of Mexican crime fiction authors, slated for publication in 2026 by the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
