Scott A. Burns is the Charles Blackwell Associate Professor of Economics at Southeastern Louisiana University, where he teaches Macroeconomics and Money and Banking. His research focuses on financial innovation in the developing world, sports economics, and entrepreneurship. He has published more than a dozen scholarly articles in journals including the Journal of Institutional Economics, Journal of Regulatory Economics, Constitutional Political Economy, Independent Review, and Journal of Private Enterprise. His popular writings have appeared in the Wall Street Journal, The Hill, Real Clear Markets, the Independent Institute, the Cato Institute, and the American Institute for Economic Research.

Burns earned his M.A. and Ph.D. in Economics from George Mason University and his B.A. in Economics from Louisiana State University. He is the recipient of the NextGen Faculty of the Year Award (2024) and the Golden Acord Award for Excellence in Teaching (2024), and served on the Teaching Excellence Team (2022–2023).

Area of Expertise

Dr. Burns' research focuses on financial innovation in the developing world, sports economics, and entrepreneurship.
