Department of History and Political ScienceWilliam B. (Bill) Robison (Ph.D., Louisiana State University, 1983) is Professor of History in the Department of History and Political Science, where he has been a faculty member since 1983 and Department Head since 1999. He is author of numerous book chapters and journal articles; co-author of The Tudors on Film and Television (2013); editor of History, Fiction, and The Tudors: Sex, Politics, Power and Artistic License in the Showtime Television Series (2016); and co-editor of Historical Dictionary of Stuart England, 1603-1689 (1995); Historical Dictionary of Late Medieval England, 1272-1485 (2002); and The Tudors, Myth, and Memory: Embroidered Truths, Outright Falsehoods, and Popular Belief (2026). He has administered two U.S. Department of Education Teaching American History Grants (2004-11), directed the documentary Louisiana During World War II, and coordinates the annual History and Political Science lecture series (September-April), including Fanfare.
British History, with emphasis on (a) Tudor politics, religion, and society, (b) the Tudors in myth and memory, and (c) adaptations of the Tudors in art, fiction, film, and public history. He has taught a broad array of courses but now focuses mainly on undergraduate and graduate classes on British History. He is a published poet and a BMI-affiliated musician.
