The Acquisitions Department is the division of the Library responsible for the ordering and purchasing of books, videos, cd-roms, microforms, and other media. In addition, we maintain the library’s budgets, process invoices, process a portion of the Library’s continuations (publications we receive on a regular basis), and negotiate with vendors. We coordinate the selection of materials purchases with Library liaisons and University faculty. We also solicit book donations and select items to be added to the collection.
We assist university faculty by purchasing books and other items for the Library to facilitate their research and to assist in their teaching. In turn, we use their expertise in their particular subject areas to create a library collection that is as appropriate to the needs of the campus community as possible. We can provide lists of materials purchased, lists of journals and many other printouts to help with accrediting or other projects within the departments. We encourage faculty to use the Library Purchase Request Form for Faculty to request purchases for the library.
We encourage students and staff who have any informational needs to contact the department’s staff via e-mail or phone or to use the Library Purchase Request Form for Students and Staff.
Each department on campus is assigned a librarian to serve as a liaison between the department and the library. Faculty should send all orders to their liaisons. They will pass them on to the Acquisitions Department. When faculty use the Library Purchase Request Form for Faculty their orders will be sent directly to their liaison.
