The Department of Kinesiology and Health Studies is excited to house the Master of Science in Athletic Training degree (MSAT). This degree will provide a comprehensive, progressive, educational and clinical foundation to prepare graduates for a career in Athletic Training.

Certified Athletic Trainers are healthcare professionals who collaborate with physicians to optimize activity and participation of patients and clients in professional and collegiate sports, public and private schools, sports medicine clinics, occupational health settings, physician offices, as well as many other emerging and developing settings. Athletic training encompasses the prevention, diagnosis and intervention of emergency, acute and chronic medical conditions involving impairment, functional limitations and disabilities. Athletic training is recognized by the American Medical Association (AMA) as a healthcare profession.

Program Highlights

Program Requirements

  • Complete 60 credit hours of required coursework earning the grade of “C” or higher in each course.
  • Earn a cumulative graduate school GPA of 3.0 or higher, and a grade of “C” in no more than 2 courses
  • Complete a capstone research project and earn a passing grade for both the written project and presentation
  • Eligibility:
  • Prerequisite courses
  • Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA
  • A minimum of 40 hours of athletic training observation under the supervision of a certified (and licensed for those states that require licensure) athletic trainer.   • Personal statement
  • 3 Letters of recommendation (2 professional [at least 1 from the ATC you observed under) and 1 personal/character)
