HAMMOND -- All Southeastern Louisiana University students and alumni are invited to attend Career Fair 2008, the Office of Career Services’s annual university‑wide career event.
Career Fair 2008 will be held Wednesday, Sept. 24, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Pennington Student Activity Center on the corner of University Ave. and General Pershing.
“Career Fair 2008 is an excellent opportunity for students and alumni to network with representatives of numerous employers, develop job leads, and establish important contacts,” said Ken Ridgedell, director of Career Services. “The information and contacts participants gather significantly improves their chances of securing a career after graduation.”
A list of participating employers and other Career Fair information are available on Career Service's web site, www.selu.edu/careerfair.
To get the most out of the fair, Ridgedell said students and alumni should dress professionally; bring copies of their resumes; be prepared to briefly discuss career interests, goals, knowledge and skills; and collect brochures and business cards.
They also can attend pre-fair seminars and workshops designed to assist them in preparing for the event.
On Sept. 16-18, noon-2 p.m., Career Services will offer “ER (Emergency Resume) Clinics,” where Career Fair participants can get a quick review of their resumes. The free clinics will be held in Student Union rooms 242 and 243. Students must bring hard copies of their resumes.
For tips on how to dress professionally and interact effectively with employers at Career Fair, students and alumni can also attend a fashion show and etiquette seminar on Sept. 18 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. in the Student Union Theatre.
