HAMMOND –With e-commerce specialists in agreement that business websites are
not enough anymore, Southeastern Louisiana University’s Small Business Development
Center is co-hosting a seminar featuring Amazon experts who will share how to get
your business set up via all the appropriate current sales channels.
“Sales channels are the new e-commerce,” said Bill Joubert, director of Southeastern’s
SBDC. “Both products and services now need to be set up in sales channels and not
just on company websites.”
Two Amazon experts, Eric Kooymans, founder and president of Harnessing Strengths,
LLC, and Shannon Roddy, founder of Marketplace Seller Courses, will conduct the seminar
and illustrate the steps needed to get businesses registered via sales channels. “E-commerce:
How to Increase Your Sales via Amazon and Other Channels” is scheduled Aug. 28, from
9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Slidell. Co-sponsored by the St. Tammany Corporation, Louisiana
Economic Development and the East St. Tammany and St. Tammany West chambers of commerce,
the seminar will be held in the Slidell Municipal Auditorium, located at 2056 2nd
St. The cost is $25 and includes lunch.
“Shoppers for products and services are increasingly starting with Amazon, Walmart
or Target searches. If you are not in these channels, people cannot find you,” Joubert
said. “While your website is still needed, the future is these sales channels. People
are even setting up storefronts in sales channels and brokering products from other
websites. Your products and services may already be selling though one of these sites
without your knowledge.”
The list of sales channels includes sites like Jet.com, Wayfair.com, Wish, Houzz,
MoreCommerce, NewEgg, Groupon Goods, Sears, Rakuten, ulily, Jane.com, Guilt.com, Snap
Deals, TheGrommet, Overstock, Mercado Libre, AliExpress, and FlipkArt.
“Amazon is pushing to get services setup on their site. Dentists, doctors, plumbers,
lawn maintenance, car repair, and even baby sitters will eventually appear,” Joubert
said. “People trust Amazon, and it only makes sense that they will search Amazon for
services.”
Joubert said attendees will learn how to leverage Facebook Ads, Google Ads, Google
Shopping, Bing Ads, Bing Shopping, Instagram ads, and Pinterest Ads as well.
Additional topics to be covered include an overview of e-commerce; online diversification;
how to increase online sales two to four times in 30 to 60 days; how to start Shopify
and WordPress Site to increase traffic 40 to 80 percent; tips for increasing Amazon
sales; and Amazon campaign optimization and building brand content.
