HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University Laboratory School student Eliza Kate
Cowser has been named the Tangipahoa Parish School System Eighth Grade Student of
the Year.
A resident of Hammond, Cowser will advance to the regional competition with the
selected students of the year from Ascension Central Community Schools, City of Bogalusa
Schools, East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, LSU University Laboratory School, Livingston,
Washington, and Zachary Community Schools.
“We are so proud that the District 8th Grade Student of the Year is a student
at the Southeastern Laboratory School and part of the greater Southeastern community,”
said Dean of the College of Education Paula Summers Calderon. “I wish Eliza Kate the
best of luck as she enters the next round of competition.”
An active student in several extra-curricular activities, Cowser excels in and
out of the classroom, according to Lab School Director Stephen Labbe.
“Eliza Kate is a natural leader. She is not only our school and parish’s Student
of the Year, she is also the Lab School’s SGA president,” said Labbe. “She is a great
student who works hard at everything she does.”
