Legal Aspects of Hiring
In accordance with Southeastern’s hiring procedures, every member on the search committee
and anyone who will participate in any part of the interviewing process must complete
the Legal Aspects of Hiring online Blackboard course before they can participate in
any of the interviews.
The purpose of this course is to inform the Department Head, Search Chairperson and
the Committee about the laws and the EEO aspects of recruiting. Once enrolled, this
course can be completed on any internet capable computer. It is best to have this
meeting as early in the search process as possible so that you have this information
when you begin your selection process.
In the Employment Procedures for Faculty/Unclassified Staff Section (II)(B) Appointment
to a Search Committee; the Department Head is to give the Search Committee a formal
written charge of their assignment to assist in the recruitment of candidates for
a specific position. The Search Committee is to take into consideration the preferred
time by which the appointment should be made, scope or limits of the search and EEO/Affirmative
Action Plan goals for the Department. Department Heads should provide the search committee
with the EEO/Affirmative Plan goals for the respective department. If you do not know
what the EEO/Affirmative Action Plan goals are for your department, please contact
Mr. Gene Pregeant, EEO/ADA Officer, at extension x5888 or [email protected].
To be enrolled in the Legal Aspects of Hiring Moodle Course or to find out if you
