Graduate Student Job Description

The following job responsibilities and duties will be carried out by the Graduate
Student employed in the Purchasing Department:

GENERAL:

A. Smile and be productive in your work

B. Academically excel to maintain your employment

C. Understand falsification of time worked constitutes payroll fraud

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

A. Report to his or her assigned Procurement Specialist on a daily basis

B. Record hours worked in the performance of job-related duties on a daily basis

C. Prepare, type and/or photocopy bid quotations for mailing as assigned

D. Receive and time-stamp sealed bids hand delivered to the Purchasing Department

E. File bid quotations in the appropriate file drawers as assigned

F. Assist university personnel and students entering the Purchasing Department

G. Assist vendors in reviewing bids when requested

H. Assist Procurement Specialist in the performance of purchasing related functions
when requested

I. Perform other department tasks as may be assigned by the Procurement Specialist

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

A. Assist in formal bid openings as assigned

B. Separate and label outgoing mail as assigned

C. Time-stamp and separate incoming mail as assigned

D. Answer and screen incoming telephone calls and transfer calls to the appropriate
personnel as assigned

E. Use personal vehicle to perform the following: assist in the retrieval of mail;
perform errands on the main campus and locally; attend meetings as requested or participate
in training workshops

F. Assist other purchasing personnel in the performance of purchasing related functions
when requested

G. Perform other department tasks as may be assigned by the Director of Purchasing

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

Must possess a valid Driver’s License, personal vehicle, and be certified by the SLU
Defensive Driving Course in order to retrieve mail and run errands
