Director, Recreational Sports & Wellness
Meet Our Director
Seth Thomas began his adventure as the Director for Recreational Sports and Wellness on September 29, 2017. Seth comes to the University with a vast experience in Campus Recreation and Student Affairs.
Seth was introduced to the wonderful world of Student Affairs and Campus Recreation at the University of Southern Mississippi where he was an undergraduate student. There were some staff members that helped Seth with life and became lifelong mentors which helped him graduate with a B.S. in Sports Administration in 2000.
Seth graduated with a M.S. in Recreation Administration in 2002 from Georgia Southern University. During this time he worked with the Campus Recreation and Intramural department as a GA for Intramural Sports (CRI Till You Die).
Out of Graduate School, Seth was the Coordinator of Intramural Sports at the University of Louisville for two years (2002-2004) where he was responsible for the management of the Intramural Sports component of the program including leagues, meets, individual and dual sports, as well as special events.
After the University of Louisville, Seth became the Manager for Intramural Sports and Sport Clubs at the University of Alabama (2004 – 2011) where he was instrumental in the restructuring of the Intramural Sports Program and the development of the Sport Club Program.
Seven years later, Seth was offered the opportunity to move to Richmond, VA and become the Assistant Director for Sports at the University of Richmond (2012-2017) which he was very smart to accept. He was responsible for sport clubs, intramural sports and sports medicine. Seth managed 30 sport clubs along with working with Advancement to develop and host events for sport club alums while the Intramural Sports program engaged an average of 1,200 participants a year.
Seth is very passionate about student development and engaging students. He believes in giving back because if it were not for the staff members at the University of Southern Mississippi, he would not have graduated college.
Seth is married to Tarra and the two have a son named Rhett Michael who are his world. Seth and Tarra met while at the University of Alabama.
