HAMMOND - Southeastern to showcase new Student Union addition at community open house

Southeastern Louisiana University will host a community open house Thursday, March 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. to celebrate the recent opening of the new Student Union addition.

Part of a $32 million student-funded initiative to expand and renovate the existing Student Union, the new addition opened Feb. 17. Guests are asked to join the celebration in the third floor's Grand Ballroom, which is being co-hosted by Southeastern Auxiliary Services, Southeastern Catering and the Student Government Association. Tours of the new Lion's Den food court on the first floor, and the Mane Dish dining facility on the second floor will be available throughout the event.

"While our students have positively embraced the new Student Union and all its amenities, we want our area residents to also know what we can offer," said Robin Parker, director of marketing and strategic initiatives for the Office of Auxiliary Services. "The new union is beautifully designed and offers considerable space for conferences, receptions and other events."

Paid for by a student-assessed fee and vendor rentals, the renovation and expansion project is being completed in three phases with an expected final completion date in early 2015. Phase two is now underway in the current union mall area, and will house the University Bookstore, additional conference rooms and offices. Phase three will include the renovation of the existing union annex to make room for a new Center for Student Excellence, University Counseling Center and University Health Center.
