Northlake Community Band to present free concert

HAMMOND – The Community Music School at Southeastern Louisiana University will present
a free Northlake Community Band Concert on Thursday, July 13, at 7 p.m., in Pottle
Auditorium on Southeastern’s campus.
The concert will be conducted by Claudea D. Landry and will feature Southeastern
saxophone faculty member Brina Bourliea as a soloist. Admission is free.
“The Northlake Community Band consists of musicians from high school students
through retired professionals,” said Community School Music Director Jivka Duke. “The
summer band offers a unique experience for teachers and students to perform together
in a relaxed environment outside of the classroom.”
The program for the concert includes “Fanfare and Flourishes” by James Curnow;
“Persuasion” by Sammy Nestico with Bourliea as soloist; “Lord of the Rings, The Symphony
No. 1 – Hobbits” by Johan De Meij; “Pachinko” by Paul Yoder; “All the Pretty Little
Horses” by Andrew Boysen, Jr.; and “Stars and Stripes Forever” by John Philip Sousa.
Duke said the Northlake Community Band always welcomes new members.
