HAMMOND – This spring, Southeastern Louisiana University’s Office of Admissions is finding new, innovative ways to stay in touch with high schoolers and their families while the university operates remotely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In accordance with CDC guidelines and the Governor’s stay at home order, prospective student events for March and April have been canceled, bringing about not only challenges, but also new opportunities for the admissions staff.
Technology has offered one such opportunity. Southeastern Admissions is utilizing multiple online sites, such as Facebook, Instagram, and Zoom, to facilitate live streaming events. Students, parents and family members can also schedule appointments with university recruiters or take virtual tours of campus. A new website incorporates existing tools and new strategies to help students near and far stay connected to Southeastern. The one-stop source for admissions virtual events and updates can be found at southeastern.edu/admissionslive.
“We are excited to be among the first in the region to launch a dedicated website to continue to serve our future Lions during the statewide closures. Moving quickly to online was an easy switch for the Admissions Team,” said Director of Admissions Anthony Ranatza. “You matter here is not just a tagline - it is personal with our team. We want to connect at-home families with the Southeastern family to better provide a smooth transition to university life. This website allows us to stay constantly connected during these challenging times.”
Future students can still apply online for admission to Southeastern for summer and fall semesters at southeastern.edu/apply. The deadlines to apply are May 1 for summer and July 1 for fall.
